Overseas Chinese and foreigners wishing to go to China to marry Chinese citizens are advised that the legal marriage age in China is 22 and above for males, 20 and above for females according to the Marriage Law of the People's Republic of China. Bigamy is illegal.
1. Documents required
"A Non-Spouse / Single Status Affidavit. Indicating: name, sex, date and place of birth, nationality, personal ID / passport number, marital status (never married, divorced, widowed) and the name of fianc¨¦e / fianc¨¦." The divorced should also have the Divorce Certificate and the widowed the Death Certificate of the former spouse, and must declare that you have never got married since and remains single.
Note: The above-mentioned documents are not valid until they are:
- Notarized by a local Notary Public;
- Authenticated by the Secretary of State in the state where the documents were notarized;
2. What to do in China?
After entering China with the above valid documents and a valid passport and Chinese visa, the applicant should, together with your fianc¨¦e/fianc¨¦, submit in person your marriage application to the marriage registration department of the local government where the Chinese citizen resides and, have your health checked by a designated hospita. Marriage can be registered only after the application is ratified, and the Marriage Certificate is issued upon registration.
