Dear Sculptors:

China Changchun Municipal Foreign Affairs Office extends its sincere compliments to you.

Changchun is capital of Jilin Province, a beautiful city in the northeast China. It has silvery winter with snow and cool summer with pleasant view. It's delightful in all seasons. Its area covers 20,571 square kilometers and the total population is 7.15 million including over 2.7 millions urban citizens. Changchun has been enjoying its good reputation of "Automobile City", "Movie City" and "Forest City". Now it is making great efforts to build itself up as a "Sculpture City".

From 1997 to 2006, eight sessions of symposiums were held. In September 2003, International Sculpture Conference was held successfully. Up till now, 347sculptors from 172 countries have created 391 sculptures for the city representing diverse kinds of artistic styles from around the world. The sculptures are all displayed in Changchun World Sculpture Park. The park covers 92 hectares, in which a specialized Sculpture Gallery covers 12.5 thousand square kilometers, holding nearly 100 excellent works created by national and international well-known sculptors and over 500 African Makonde wood sculptures with unique style.

With the theme of "Friendship, Peace and Spring", the 9th Changchun China International Sculpture Symposium will be held from July 25th to September 5th, 2008, for further promoting international cultural exchanges and improving Changchun urban sculpture construction.
